Seven Summers
From Minnesota to Bøverdalen
In the 1970s, Arna Rennan left Minnesota with a clear plan to pursue art education in Norway. Lilli Brimi invited her to her cabin at Tesse , and one day they drove to Røisheim , where Lilli had worked in her youth and still had acquaintances. On the same day, two Scottish girls had quit their jobs, and Arna spontaneously stayed to work.
Thus began a journey that led her back to Røisheim seven summers in a row. In Bøverdalen She made friends for life and enjoyed the magnificent landscape and the changing light effects.
Education and work
Arna entered the then Statens Kunstakademi in Oslo and apprenticed with Alf Jørgen Aas, who gave her a thorough understanding of composition, the use of color, and what it takes to make a painting expansive and alive. As a student, she received the Thomas Fearnley scholarship and lived in Paris for four months. Since then, she has participated in exhibitions at UKS, the Norwegian Artists' Association and the Autumn Exhibition, and has been purchased by, among others, the Arts Council of Norway, the Municipality of Oslo, Nord-Trøndelag and the Minnesota State Arts Board.
In the 80s, she moved back to Minnesota with her family. That's when she started painting outdoors – as a way to feel part of her surroundings. Today, she lives in Lom and continues the same work here.
